A reflection from the ACEP Energy Psychology Conference: Roots and Wings Healing and Thriving with Science and Spirit.
Have you ever had to go somewhere you didn’t want to go and discovered a great surprise waiting just beyond your comfort zone?
I did.
I was excited to attend and present at the ACEP Energy Psychology Conference: Roots and Wings. And yet, underneath the excitement, there was an awkward feeling I couldn’t quite shake. I knew some of the speakers from a distance, admiration from afar, but I didn’t know a single person who would be attending. I was going, as far as my nervous system was concerned, alone.
Then the airline moved my seat.
I was heading to my seat, turned to the woman in the aisle, and said, “Excuse me.” She looked up and said, “Hello, Cynthia.”
I was stunned.
She was a dear colleague. In fact, she is the very person who taught me Counting, the modality I was working with the weekend before I created Harmonic Brain Healing (HBH). And there I was, on my way to present HBH, which I entitled NeuroRhythm for this audience, because at its heart it connects us to our own rhythm through the multi-layering of counting, imagination, and the visual field. HBH has had powerful effects in supporting clients with grief, OCD, releasing horrific images, dreams and thoughts.
By the end of the conference, I found myself surrounded by her and two other colleagues I had known years ago.
My ego mind had been certain I was traveling alone. The larger intelligence had other plans.
I just love coincidences. They seem to be filling my life more and more. And what I experienced over the next several days only deepened my understanding of why.
Three Takeaways I’m Still Carrying
Connection is its own healing modality.
Whether it was the opening ceremony, the closing circle, or every breath we took together in between, the HeartMath first keynote session wove through the entire conference like a thread of coherence. We weren’t just learning about group resonance; we were experiencing it in real time. I could feel the shift in the room. The vitality. The openness that emerges when people regulate together rather than alone.
There is something that happens when practitioners gather with shared intention. The body often knows it before the mind does.
Our work travels farther than we imagine.
One of the most moving presentations I witnessed described how Energy Psychology was brought to Uganda and offered to over 1,000 people. What struck me wasn’t just the scale. It was the openness. The willingness of the people there to receive, to catch on, and then to share with their communities. Eight local practitioners were trained to carry the work forward.
That is how healing spreads. Not through one person doing everything, but through the gift passing from hand to hand, community to community. We are more connected than we can directly see.
Wisdom lives in a body that has been practicing for a long time.
It was an honor to meet Edith Eden, a legend in this field, now in her 80s, full of laughter, joy, and tools that still surprise and delight. She gave me a small magnet that she had used in her demonstration. I will treasure it.
If you want to experience her work for yourself, she has a generous presence on YouTube and is well worth discovering.
A Pause Before You Go
Take a breath with me for a moment.
Notice where you are right now. Notice how these words have landed in your body — not your mind, your body. What has stirred? What has quieted?
What are you considering lately about how you work with your own energy?
The conference reminded me of something I already knew but needed to feel again: We have the capacity to shift at any given moment. The conditions for transformation are not extraordinary. They are available now, in this breath, in this moment of noticing.
Roots and wings, indeed.
